Potoške hiše (translated by “Potoki Houses” in English) is the name of our family business that manages our guesthouses.
We are a Franco-Slovenian family who share our time between these two countries. Roman was born in the family house in Potoki, which we renovated over time, then we renovated Hiša Hansa in 2019, Hiša Pri Koritu in 2021, Hiša Mija in 2022, and finally Hiša Blašč in 2024.
Each one has its own particularities, its own decoration, its position in the village… We are putting all our hearts, all of our ideas, into a mastered renovation that preserves the particular style of the valley, adding a touch of design so that each guest feels at home in a modern and comfortable environment.
Potoki is a small village of about forty houses, in the Nadiža Valley, very close to the Soča Valley, without the crowds of tourists, respecting nature and its local environment. The Nadiža River and its gorges are accessible only on foot and by bike from Potoki, and has the particularity of being hot in summer thanks to resurgences of hot water, and said to have therapeutic virtues.
From the different terraces, you can see the border with Italy which passes at the top of the two mountains in front the houses, Matajur and Mija. Without moving from their place, the houses and their inhabitants have in turn been inhabitants of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Kingdom of Italy, the Socialist Federation of Yugoslavia and since 1991 of the Republic of Slovenia.
Potoki is a place with a strong story, and a need of memory. We want to preserve this small village that has seen a lot; war, earthquakes… We want to add some colours to it, make it more alive.
Located 5 minute drive from the town of Kobarid, 5 minute drive from the Italian border. You can feel the different inspirations from Italy, the south wind, the cold of the mountains and rivers, the humidity of the vast forest, the morning mist coming up from river, the food in between Italy and Balkan.
